Sikan grains benefits
The Sikan mix is a true concentration of well-being. Obtained only from ancient Sicilian cereals, it preserves all the health properties typical of ancient organic cereals. First of all it is important to say that the vast majority of cereals coming from abroad (and contained in many commonly used products) are grown with the use of glyphosate, a chemical herbicide that is very harmful to health. Ancient grains, on the other hand, are naturally more resistant and therefore do not require herbicides to grow and mature. Moreover, thanks to the particularly favorable climate of Sicily, ancient grains do not develop fungal substances and are therefore incredibly free of mycotoxins (potentially harmful to health) at 100%.
If these reasons are not enough, the Sikan mix still has several properties that will surely amaze you.
The Sikan mix uses ancient Sicilian organic cereals that are not genetically modified by man, which have remained so for hundreds of years and which are not only much more compatible with our receptors but also much more digestible than the flours produced by the so-called “modern cereals” ” .
In addition to being easily digestible, this mix is also particularly suitable for people intolerant to gluten, as it contains a very small percentage of gluten. The fact that it is very digestible must not deceive, in fact it is often thought that what is easily digestible does not give a sense of satiety. Nothing could be more wrong! The Sikan mix uses stone ground grains that almost entirely preserve the bran, or the part of the wheat grain containing a high percentage of proteins, mineral salts and vitamins. So a pizza or a focaccia prepared with a Sikan base are transformed into much more complete meals that contain high quality enzymatic proteins, carbohydrates, unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, mineral salts and everything our body needs to function correctly.
Among the substances that are rich in the Sikan mix do not include sugars, of which white flours are very rich. The ancient whole grains, compared to refined white flour, keep the glycemic index low, preventing the development of type 2 diabetes and coronary diseases, as well as counteracting obesity. This is because wholemeal or semi-integral flours safeguard the micronutrients of the outer wall of the caryopsis (bran), preserving all nutritional properties intact. Bran maintains the glycemic index of blood lower, stabilizes glucose levels, controls cholesterol levels and moderates appetite. Sikan flour allows slow and progressive release of carbohydrates into the blood, helping to increase satiety, reduce insulin and hormonal incretins, cause of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and risk factors for different types of tumors.
Finally, a factor of no small importance, consuming ancient Sicilian grains allows the conservation of biodiversity, perhaps our most precious heritage, which every year risks disappearing forever due to the loss of animal and plant species. Buying and consuming products based on ancient Sicilian grain flours helps to lend a hand to the planet, but also to local economies as well as to one’s health!
